Android Developer Nanodegree programme gives Joe Goodall a platform for success
After completing a master’s degree in Sport and Exercise Science while working as a personal trainer, Joe Goodall started looking for ways to combine his passion for health with his interest in technology. Hearing the buzz about a new online course for aspiring Android developers announced at Google I/O, called the Android Developer Nanodegree, Joe decided to sign up, with the goal of pursuing a career in the tech world. “The biggest selling point for me was that it was co-created by Google,” says Joe. “Plus the fact that it focused on teaching you really practical skills. I knew it could be a great way to build my experience in the field of app development.” Enrolling in the Nanodegree programme through Udacity gave Joe the technical skills and career development training he needed to follow his chosen path. “The help you get is so effective. Udacity mentors look at everything in a really detailed way, and the direct feedback you get on your code is particularly helpful,” says Joe. “The Android Developer Nanodegree programme also helps you build your online presence and raise your professional profile, which is what employers in the programming world are looking for.” Since completing the Nanodegree, Joe has used his new skills to secure a permanent Mobile Developer role at London-based tech company Connected Space, where he works on a range of Internet of Things projects. “I’m now getting the opportunity to apply new technologies in the fields of sports and health, where there’s huge potential to do a lot of good,” he concludes.
